Super blue blood moon with Swanthana

31st January 2018
The super blue blood moon was visible in the night sky on 31st January 2018. It is a very rare celestial event. The next time this will happen again is after 150 years.
We decided that we must give our girls the opportunity to witness this amazing  sight.
We showed the girls a short documentary on how the normal moon becomes a blood moon. A rather abstract idea for our girls, who rarely leave the safe environment of Swanthana. However they enjoyed the idea of going out at night to watch the blood moon. They were extremely happy to witness the event and turned the entire environment ecstatic.
The girls drew pictures of the configuration of the sun moon and earth which causes the  blood moon to happen.
They are also learning how day and night occur due to the rotation of the earth.
Our song this week is ‘The Solar System Song ‘. If you are interested you can watch it on YouTube. A great way for children to learn about the solar system
